The workshop «Big data and artificial intelligence in cancer imaging», organized during IEEE BHI – BSN 2021 was held on the 27th of July 2021.

Prof Tsiknakis, as Coordinator of ProCAncer- I (www.procancer-i.eu) presented the vision, principles and challenges of the project during the first joint dissemination action of the four H2020 projects. These projects are funded under the same Action Line: AI for Health Imaging (Call: H2020-SC1-FA-DTS-2019-1): CHAIMELEON (chaimeleon.eu), EuCanImage (eucanimage.eu) and INCISIVE (incisive-project.eu).

The workshop was organized by the Coordinators of all four projects: Prof. Karim Lekadir, Universitat de Barcelona; Prof. Luis Martí-Bonmatí, La Fe University; Prof. Manolis Tsiknakis, FORTH; Mrs. Gianna Tsakou, Athens R&D Lab of Maggioli S.P.A.

During the workshop, issues were addressed mainly regarding the collaboration opportunities and challenges identified so far by all projects and the clinical considerations that arise  during the AI development and deployment in cancer imaging.

Some of the topics discussed were the anonymization of Medical Imaging Data, the data management, the AI Model of the Healthcare System of Catalonia, the AI validation (different approaches and pro’s and con’s) and the use and integration of these new technologies from the industrial point of view. Also of particular interest was the presentation on accumulated experiences from The Cancer Imaging Archive held by Prof. Fred Prior.
