An article from our partner, Gloria Ribas, Clinical Data Scientist del Grupo de Investigación Biomédica en Imagen (Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria La Fe) was published on the 25th of February in the special Medical Edition of the El País newspaper.
The article deals with major advances in medicine, made possible by a combination of technological innovation and research developments. Genomics and various application of Artificial Intelligence or natural language processing techniques allow the transition from unstructured information to structured and organized information. This information, which until less than a decade ago was in paper format, has undergone a dizzying transformation towards digitalization in all healthcare services. To address this great challenge, numerous national and international initiatives are being carried out, such as the EUCAIM, where data and its access in a digital, massive, and secure manner is the central axis of all research. The European Union, in its recent Horizon Europe program, gives priority to funding research projects, such as the ProCAncer-I project, focused on the collection, storage and sustainable management of structured clinical data for subsequent exploitation in research projects and with the aim of contributing to personalized medicine.
