Gold medal from the European Society of Radiology to Prof. Dr. Deniz Akata

Hacettepe University Department of Radiology Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Deniz Akata was awarded the ESR Gold Medal by the European Society of Radiology for her contributions to the field of radiology and European radiology. Prof. Dr. Deniz Akata is the first Turkish scientist to be awarded this award. Prof. Dr. Deniz Akata was presented with her medal at a special ceremony at the European Congress of Radiology (ECR 2024), in Vienna on February 28, 2024.

Prof. Dr. Akata has been actively working in the European Society of Radiology, the world’s largest radiology society with more than 137 thousand members, for many years. Apart from her membership in the board of directors and the organizing and scientific committees of the European Congress of Radiology, she has served as the Chairman of the European National Radiology Societies Committee, as the Chairman of the European Training Assessment Program for institutions providing radiology specialization training in Europe, as a member on Quality, Audit and Radiation Safety in Radiology boards, as a member of the European Proficiency Examination Commission and as an instructor in European School of Radiology courses. She is currently Co-Chair of the EuroSafe Imaging Educational Activities Working Group and a Member of the Editorial Board of Insights into Imaging, the scientific journal of the European Society of Radiology. Prof. Akata and her team in HACETTEPE are an important clinical partner at the ProCAncer-I project, contributing to the establishment of one of the largest prostate cancer dataset collection.
